This painting was drawn from my visit to Arches National Park in Utah. The famous "Delicate Arch" lies in the background across a ravine along with other beautiful monolithcal rock structures. The middleground has some colorful very dry dying scrub brush and the foreground has a twisted dead tree to which I paradoxically added a living fruit—an apple. The disected apple in the right foreground has the continents engraved into the endocarp (seed) which is really belongs inside a peach. An incredible composition that nature is hard to improve on.
