This painting is from an anecdote I read about a man who went into a gallery to buy a painting and the salesman tried to sell him a completely blank white canvas like "The Emperor Has No Clothes" story, so being a little suspicious the man asked what the subject of the painting was to which the salesman replied "its a picture of a white cow infront of a snow covered hill during a snowstorm" which even if it really was would have very subtle perceptible changes in color and tone. So this is the subject of this painting, under a magnifying glass which doubles the size for most of the glass except for the small circle which magnifies the image 6 times which is where the 2 and 6 times in the title come from.
